Chikomborero Foundation hosted its first online mental health dialogue of 2026, centered on the theme Goal Setting vs Soul Setting. The session created a safe space for reflection, learning, and honest conversations about personal growth.
The discussion explored how traditional goal setting, while important for direction, can sometimes lead to pressure through strict timelines and unrealistic expectations. Many people unknowingly attach their self-worth to their achievements, which can negatively affect their mental well-being.
Coach Cy introduced the concept of soul setting, focusing on inner work, self-awareness, and identity. Participants learned that the soul, made up of the mind, will, and emotions, is the foundation of who we are. Instead of only focusing on outcomes, soul setting encourages individuals to reflect on the deeper reasons behind their goals.
Key reflection questions included:
- What am I trying to prove with this goal?
- What emotional need is driving this desire?
The session emphasized that becoming is a continuous journey, not a checklist. Growth happens daily through small, intentional actions.
Participants were guided on how to set self-esteem-friendly goals by:
- Prioritizing personal growth over performance
- Taking small, consistent steps
- Allowing progress to unfold over time
The dialogue concluded with an exercise encouraging participants to write a letter to their future selves, defining the person they are committed to becoming.
